CALL FOR PAPERS AND PROPOSALS

2011 International Conference on Information and Communication
Technologies in Forensics

ICTinForensics 2011

June 20-23, 2011, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil

http://www.ICTinForensics.org

Paper submission deadline: March 1, 2011

SCOPE

Events in all aspects of human activity may be the object of forensic
investigation. Therefore, forensic science techniques originate from
all the different scientific disciplines. Nevertheless, forensic
science deals with its own specific issues and is a very rich branch
of knowledge in itself.

Information and communication technologies are present in almost all
aspects of human life, bringing unprecedented possibilities, changing
what can be done and how we do things.

In recent years, information and communication technologies have
become an essential part of forensics. On one hand, many current
forensic cases target ICT based systems that range from small and
ubiquitous devices like smart phones, all the way up to huge
distributed, data intensive, one of a kind computer systems. On the
other hand, ICT based systems have turned themselves into everyday
tools of forensic experts, effectively changing the way most forensic
work is done. From case management to scientific computing, ICT
pervades forensic work.

The developments in information systems and communication technologies
have created significant opportunities for forensic work advances,
bringing new techniques and maximizing productivity through
distributed collaborations that facilitate unprecedented levels of
sharing of resources.

This conference will bring together researchers, developers, and
practitioners from academia, law enforcement, government and industry,
to review, discuss and learn about new and emerging trends,
approaches, concepts, theories, methodologies, tools, and experiences
in the field of information and communications technologies as they
are applied to forensic science. The conference should provide an
opportunity for fruitful discussions between researchers and
practitioners of different scientific disciplines.

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished contributions that
describe innovative and significant work in all theoretical and
practical aspects of the application of information and communication
technologies in forensics or on the forensic examination of ICT based
devices and systems.

Contributions must not substantially overlap with any other similar
contribution by the authors submitted elsewhere. Furthermore,
previously published works by the same authors with any overlap should
be cited prominently in the proper field in the submission system.

All submissions will undergo a dual blind reviewing process, and will
be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers. Submissions will
be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical
soundness, clarity of exposition, presentation and comparison with
relevant related work.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

   * Algorithms, Forensic Mathematics
   * Programming models
   * Software Libraries

   * Case management tools
   * Case presentation tools

SUBMISSION

Contributions may be in the form of full papers, short papers,
tutorial proposals and posters.

Full papers (up to 16 pages). Regular full papers should contain
theoretical or practical results that must be original, significant,
and sound. Full papers tend to be descriptions of complete technical
work.

Short papers (up to 8 pages). Short papers may either contain
descriptions of interesting, innovative ideas, which nevertheless
require more work to mature, or describe recent research activities,
practical experience, and preliminary results that are worth
discussing.

Posters. Posters may display first ideas of non-ready publications and
projects in progress within the area of ICT in forensics. Poster
sessions are mainly addressed to young researchers. All accepted
posters will be exhibited during the whole event. Preferred poster
sizes are 2A0 and 48x72 inches. Poster size should not exceed 1219mm
(48in) in the vertical dimension and 1829mm (72in) in the horizontal
dimension.

Tutorial proposals (up to 3 pages). Tutorials are either full day or
half-day  short courses. Tutorials do not need to be completely
developed as of the time of submission. However, there must be a
relatively firm outline of the tutorial, including preliminary
allocations of time to each of its sections. Tutorial proposals should
make very clear the technical background expected from the audience.

Contributions should be written in English. They should be in PDF
format and may be no longer than the maximum number of pages for each
type of contribution as stated above, including all text, figures and
references. Format details will be available in the conference site.

Authors should submit their contributions via the following site:

http://ictinforensics.org/submissions

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
Authors of accepted papers must sign a copyright release form.

Accepted papers must be presented at the conference by one of the
authors. The presenting author will need to register for the
conference before the revised camera-ready versions deadline.

The authors of best papers will be invited to submit extended versions
of their papers for publication in a special issue of an international
journal (under negotiation).

Additional information including author instructions, registration and
hotel information will be posted on the conference website.
