As of today, messages to this list will be in a public archive. The  
few messages that were in the archives from the past year or so were  
deleted (because they were sent under the assumption that the  
archives would not be public and some people did not want the  
messages to be public).

In reality, this new policy does not really change the visibility of  
the messages because there is no approval process to join this list.  
Therefore, anyone could have joined the list and viewed the private  
archives. Making the archives public though allows people to find  
relevant messages from search engines.
